The Adams and Hochul administrations are taking their shot at transforming the Kingsbridge Armory in the Bronx, a vast and unused site that has seen several failed development proposals in recent years.
Gov. Kathy Hochul and Mayor Eric Adams each pledged $100 million from the state and the city, respectively, to redevelop the 570,000-square-foot property during a Tuesday morning announcement at the armory. Officials will release a request for proposals to redevelop the site in September and select a winner next year, aiming to break ground on the project in 2027.
Speakers at the announcement did not get too specific about what they hoped to see the armory used for but said it should adhere to priorities community members identified during a lengthy engagement process. Preferred industries they identified for the armory included film and television, technology, sustainable manufacturing and urban agriculture.
