New York's 100 Best Places to Work
in 2021
Year two of the Covid-19 era has inspired employers to look past short-term workplace solutions to the crisis. They were pressed to think about and implement changes that would equip their employees to endure turmoil for the long haul. Now Crain’s is recognizing the employers who rose to the challenge in the latest Best Places to Work rankings.
Amid tough competition, Transwestern reclaimed the top slot, after falling to number two in 2020. The commercial real estate firm earned top marks in diversity, work-life balance, career development and benefits.
Elsewhere in the ranking, mental health initiatives took center stage, with isolation taking a toll on workers. NextRoll expanded its benefits to include Calm and ClassPass subscriptions and added “recharge days” as a paid-time-off category. Digital Remedy extended Mental Health Day to a full week and started monthly workout challenges to encourage staying healthy and connected. Noodle, an education company, began to provide free tutoring services for the children of employees and discounted services for friends and family.
Crain’s again partnered with Best Companies Group, an independent research firm, to find the top 100 employers in New York City that are enduring challenging conditions and reinventing themselves in the process. The rankings are broken down by small (1-50 city employees), midsize (51-100 employees) and large (more than 100 employees) companies. They are based on extensive employee surveys, in addition to audits of benefits, human resources, policies and perks.
